Caudal area - San Nicolás

The Nicolasa mine began operating between 1855 and 1859, when it belonged to the French company Compagnie Miniére et Métallurgique des Asturies. That same year, Fabrica de Mieres was constituted by Numa Guilhou, to which the Nicolasa Mariana and Coruías mines belonged.

A narrow-track railway began operating in 1879 for the Nicolasa group.

An agreement was reached in 1951 to deepen the auxiliary Nicolasa shaft, which ended five years later following the installation of the derrick, the mining machinery and the compressor room.
