First programme contract: 1981-1983

From 1981, new planning mechanisms were established through agreements between the unions and the Authorities for three-year periods (1981-1983, 1984-1986) and for four-year periods (1987-1990).

This planning led to collective bargaining agreements seeking to improve labour relations and to give continuity to production and programme-contracts with the Regional Government that included the commitments of the latter regarding subsidies.

The significant changes involved in these measures were: increase in winning mechanising, reduction of the workforce and heavy investment to ensure continuity of the facilities.

During this time, on 1st January 1981, the real workforce at Hunosa stood at 22,150 employees. On completion of this programme-contract, the number of employees was 21,122, all of whom saw the start of the second programme-contract. Real production amounted to 3.3 million tons in 1981, 3.5 million in 1982 and 3.3 million in 1983.
